I look forward to answering questions for the UK Parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee’s public session as part of its inquiry into fake news on Thursday February 8 in Washington DC. parliament.uk/business/commi…
Follow @hshaban for coverage of this unprecedented session of British MPs in Washington DC hearing from Facebook, Twitter, Google and others before a committee that has no equivalent in the US Congress. washingtonpost.com/news/the-switc…
In his letter to @jack the Chair of the Digital, Media, Culture and Sport Committee @DamianCollins asks for follow-up on research regarding Russian accounts active during the Brexit referendum campaign: parliament.uk/documents/comm…
In their response Twitter followed up indicating that while the suspicious Brexit accounts studied by independent researchers show characteristics of spam and automation they did not find “sufficiently strong” links to the IRA troll factory. parliament.uk/documents/comm…
Based on requests for more research from Facebook by @DamianCollins and DMCS Committee it seems like the company may be offering their findings in Washington DC on Thursday. parliament.uk/documents/comm…
Previous session from the Parliament’s Digitial, Media, Culture and Sport Committee’s hearing on fake news available here: parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/63…
I’m most curious about the line of questioning directed at YouTube by the UK’s DCMS Committee especially given the gobsmacking study by @guardian with former YT algorithm programmer’s dataset and follow-up reaction from US Senator @MarkWarner theguardian.com/technology/201…
Also interesting to see if the DMCS Committee hearing chaired by @DamianCollins goes into the issues highlighted by this recent @wired article on religious extremists in Britain gaming Facebook’s algorithm for targeting and radicalizing. wired.co.uk/article/britai…
Of course it’s fair to wonder if the committee will have questions about my quest to get answers in UK courts under the Data Protection Act as to why our voter data was processed by Cambridge Analytica in London for the election of 2016. theguardian.com/technology/201…
Likewise, the Parliament’s DMCS Committee might be interested in understanding how the regulator for Cambridge Analytica @ICOnews is working through a complex transnational investigation into voter data analytics that includes US voters. iconewsblog.org.uk/2017/12/13/upd…
