What this shameless clickbait headline doesn’t mention is the NRA donation went to the U.S. Army’s JROTC program — and what this article doesn’t mention is, during the the shooting, young JROTC members used the JROTC’s Kevlar sheets to shield a group of ~60 students from gunfire.
Here’s an interview with two of the young JROTC captains — Zackary Walls and Colton Haab — both 17 year old students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High — describing their swift actions shielding a room full of their fellow students. “We were ready to fight.”
Other outlets besides @thinkprogress that are pushing this shameless, clickbait, guilty-by-association nonsense headline — instead of pointing out that these young JROTC leaders probably saved a bunch of kids’ lives? @thehill, @CBSNews, @AP, & @MotherJones. Shame on all of them.
A particularly shameless headline from @NYDailyNews conflating the NRA with Nikolas Cruz belonging to one of the JROTC’s clubs — and of course the heroism of the JROTC leaders in saving the lives of other cadets & fellow students doesn’t get a cover story.
.@DavidAFrench is 100% right.

Peter Wang — one of the students killed by Nikolas Cruz — was a JROTC cadet who was seen holding the door open for other students to escape the gunfire before him. A simple act of kindness, of bravery, & of sacrifice. This young man died a hero. Honor him.
