PRESS RELEASE: @LabourAgainstAS Reported Secret Corbyn Antisemitism Group to Labour ‘Months Ago’
Labour Against Antisemitism (LAAS) has described the Labour Party as ‘not revealing the full truth’ of Labour membership of the secret ‘Palestine Live’ Facebook group.
Thread
The secret network, which featured highly antisemitic content, included Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as an active member in addition to Labour MPs Clive Lewis and Chris Williamson.
2.
The @UKLabour Party reported that it had suspended several members following revelations about the Palestine Live group in David Colliers report, but LAAS have revealed that they are aware of at least 107 members of the network who also claim to be Labour Party members.
3.
LAAS has also said they previously reported over 30 Labour members of the network to the party in 2017 & no action had been taken.
Euan Philipps, spokesperson for LAAS, said:
‘The Labour Party is not revealing the full truth of member involvement in the Palestine Live network.
4
LAAS was very familiar with many of those in the Palestine Live network. We have a huge amount of intelligence on this group and reported over 30 of its members to Labour compliance at various points during 2017.
5.
Information was supplied using a format designed to the compliance unit’s specifications. They can have no excuse for not acting on the reports we supplied, some of which were sent months ago.
6.
Labour appear to have turned a blind eye to this. They are saying that Palestine Live was not founded by, administered by & populated by Labour Party members but that is simply not true: both administrators of this group had been reported to the party for antisemitism by LAAS.
7
The biggest question of all is why Jeremy Corbyn didn’t report Palestine Live when he chose to leave it following his leadership election victory in 2015. He said last week that ‘antisemitism in any form is wrong’ – so why didn’t think to challenge it at the time?’
8.
If the Labour Party was serious about dealing with antisemitism they would have contacted us for assistance. Yet despite our offers, so far no-one from the party has been in touch.
9.
It is understood that the new Jennie Formby (@JennieUnite), the new General Secretary of the Labour Party, will be making antisemitism a priority and we will be following her progress with keen interest.’
END.
