This statement from the LRC National Executive is not just a prolonged excuse for Labour antisemitism. It amounts to little more than an tirade, which blames the victims and alleges a political conspiracy.

Suggesting that antisemitism in the Labour Party is “propaganda” from the "ruling class,” and that “false allegations" are created “whenever an election looms,” mirrors the worst type of accusations historically levelled at the Jewish community.

John McDonell should apologise and resign as the organisation’s president immediately, as should any senior Labour members involved in LRC. Mr McDonnell spoke during the summer of how Labour’s antisemitism scandal had shaken him “to the core”.

If he is genuine in seeking to challenge antisemitism in the party then he will act incisively and remove himself from this poisonous fringe.

Until Labour comes to terms with the well documented antisemitism issues it has created, and until it stops using classic stereotypes as a denial, then things can only get worse.
