Don't get me wrong, we have some of the BEST trained Nurses & Dr's in Jamaica. However, sometimes we focus so much on their medical training and we forget to place emphasis on customer service training
Compassionate Care is a response to how we deliver health care to users of the public health system. It will use 3 strategies to improve overall customer satisfaction
The improvement of customer service through the training of all front line staff, the enhancement and upliftment of waiting areas and bathroom facilities and also the introduction of a structured volunteerism program will be part of this programme
We have already begun to train the staff of the VJH & KPH hospitals and over the next few months this will be institutionalised in ALL hospitals islandwide
Additionally, we have upgraded the antenatal clinic at VJH . Complete overhaul - every crevice cleaned, re-painted, educational murals, bathroom re-done and new comfy chairs for the expectant mothers to be comfortable
& the reactions from the users of the clinic today have expressed such gratitude for the upgrades as it makes their waiting experience so much more comfortable
Additionally, the nurses today told me that they feel a renewed sense of pride in where they work and to me i know that renewed sense will go a long way
The programme also introduces a structured volunteerism programme to the hospitals.
Many people ask us how they can volunteer and help out... well you can and you are welcome. We need people to help us. Read to the patients, comb their hair.. it goes a long way
This is open to individuals over 14 years and of course we will have to do the necessary checks but if interested contact the CEO of your hospital for more information
