Malaysia's 14th General Elections will be the people of Malaysia against Najib Razak

(This is a thread)

On May 9, we will go out to cast our votes to determine the future of our country.

The General Election is held on a working day, clearly a malicious intent to ensure a low voter turnout, despite all the underhand tactics to steal the election.
This election is fought by the people vs caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Razak.

This election will see the vast majority of poor Malaysians take on the country’s elite.
It will be an election of a government mired in scandals against a strengthened Opposition.

It will be an election where 61 years of failure is pitted against ten years of success.
And the power to decide is in your hands.

We have tried Najib’s ways for nine years and we are failing as a country.

We’ve made international news for all the wrong reasons and Najib has tightened the screw on the democratic space in the country to keep his grip on power.
He has strengthened the Sedition Act, brought back detention without trial which he initially removed, charged and jailed former premier Anwar Ibrahim and numerous other Opposition politicians and civil society members.
He has turned Parliament into his political playground but has not answered any criticism towards his administration.
And as a last resort to keep a lid on reports about the financial mishandling of 1Malaysia Development Berhad, Najib has further stifled media freedom through the Anti Fake News Act.
To ensure victory at the polls, he has cut and redrawn electoral boundaries by racially dividing Malaysians to favour UMNO.

And now, he has deregistered Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for fear that former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will unseat him.
But his greed for power, the gerrymandering and malapportionment will backfire if we turned out to vote for a better Malaysia.
Najib’s rule has resulted in the creation of ‘The Other Malaysia’; a Malaysia with children suffering stunted growth worse than Ghana.
A Malaysia where nearly nine out of ten households have zero savings.

And a Malaysia, where the poor do not have enough money to buy medicines as healthcare costs are ballooning.
After decades of a Barisan Nasional-rule, Pakatan Harapan promises good governance and a transparent administration.
It promises a politics of hope and inclusiveness where the welfare of the poor and marginalised are taken care of; where we embrace and celebrate diversity; where religion and colour of the skin don’t matter.
This is why we need you to rise and take back our country.

Tell your friends and family to check their voting status.

Volunteer as a polling and counting agent to help counter the cheating, which will happen on polling day.
And most importantly, vote in big numbers. We need a 90% voter turnout to defeat Najib in this election.

Now is the time for change. Together, we can turn this country around.
