THREAD: Out of all of Trump's cabinet, Secretary of Education Betsy Devos is viewed most unfavorably. It's quite the feat, but is it deserved? It just might be, and I'm going to give you a few (among many) reasons why. 
The Devos family owns a fleet of 12 private jets, so it's no wonder she's the first Sec of Ed to refer to public schools as a "dead end." Trump calls them a "monopoly." They're both billionaires who see public education as a business opportunity. Hence, wanting to privatize it.
In her time involved in education back in Michigan, Devos spent millions electing legislators that would slash public school budgets to spread for-profit charter schools across the state. Now HALF of those charters rank at the BOTTOM of all US schools.

By the time Devos had completed her education reform campaign in Michigan, it dropped from 28th to 41st in reading and from 27th to 42nd in math among other states. She now plans on doing the same nationwide. Here she is struggling to explain a 9 BILLION$ cut to public education.
To say that Devos is failing upwards would be a fair statement. How else would you describe a Secretary of Education who's seemingly ignorant about Jim Crow laws and their effect on schools? About as racially sensitive as her few supporters and their fan art, among other things.
Devos isn't only disliked because of her blunders, but also because of what they reveal. She's not only woefully ignorant of marginalized people's experiences, she's now actively making it harder for them to have their grievances heard in school.

One of the best examples of Betsy Devos' ignorance doubling as dangerous is in her 60 minutes interview. When asked about her approach to sexual assault cases, she simply can't bring herself to admit they outnumber the false allegations. Yet, she's in charge of setting policy.
In her quest to spread for-profit charter schools, Devos left behind America's most vulnerable: disabled children. The majority of charters and private schools don't have special education programs. Many of these kids' parents can't afford her cruelty.

In the end, Devos' attitude is in line with the rest of the Trump admin. From Scott Pruitt at the EPA to Jeff Sessions and private prisons, they're all siphoning public funds to the already rich. It's a looting, but this time it's at your kids' expense.
