1.#PresTC Twitter conferences from organizations like @SAApreservation and
@Conservators_uk shows the popularity of social media is in conservation. Last year I started to ask myself who is using it and how?
2. #PresTC To answer that question I designed a survey was circulated through the
Conservation DistList and on social media with the help of groups like @CAC_ACCR, @Conservators_uk, @conservators, and @AICCM_OZ.
3. #PresTC 284 people responded. Answers came in from every continent except Antarctica. @fletcherdurant helped put me in touch with a contact to help improve the number or respondents from Asia but the unilingual nature of the survey played a roll in response locations.
4. #PresTC The largest number of respondents were in the 25-34 age group and almost half of them self identified as emerging conservators.
5 #PresTC A large number of respondents were institutional conservators but 9% weren't conservators, showing the wide audience for conservation content.
6. #PresTC In fact the majority of conservation social media content is aimed at a the
general public not a specialized audience. In addition many institutions, including @LibraryArchives share conservation content.
7. #PresTC And where are people sharing this info?
8. #PresTC Facebook was the most popular platform followed by Instagram and Twitter.
9. #PresTC The majority of respondents use social media to both share and find conservation content.
10. #PresTC And people are incorporating the information they find in their conservation practices.
11. #PresTC For more discussion on this topic check out @thecwordpodcaste episodes on Social Media and Salvage.
12. #PresTC It looks like the conservation information on social media is only going to grow. So dig in!
