Sparse crowd for the COVID skeptic rally in Twin Falls today organized by the John Birch Society and featuring Lt Gov McGeachin and at least 7 GOP lawmakers. #idpol #idleg #COVID19 #idahoCovid19
Guys with ear pieces wearing III% militia gear appear to be providing security. And Idaho III% president Eric Parker was scheduled to speak, although not seeing him as of yet.
Almost no masks, lots of hugs and handshakes, no distancing as Idaho’s. COVID-19 cases continue to spike.

For those listening to Panhandle Health District, their stream went down. Their PIO said they're trying to get the county to fix it. #idpol #idahocovid19
Watching the KHQ feed, which is nice, but doesn't fulfill the open meeting obligations. I believe they are stopping the meeting right now to try to fix the Internet issues, though!
Kudos to the Panhandle Health District for shutting down the meeting to address the Internet connectivity issues.

They're back in session now. Currently, a man wearing a VAXXED shirt is giving false information about mask safety.

One reason I find this interesting is most of the #maskmandates so far have been in places where Democrats control local politics. This would be the first one in a more Republican city. #idpol #idahoCovid19 postregister.com/news/local/ida… via @thepostregister
Bonneville County’s quirky. The local GOP central committee is one of the most conservative in the state but the City Council is actually pretty liberal, it’s a mix of Republicans, Democrats and independents. They recently voted to expand the local anti-discrimination ordinance.
Mayor Casper is a Republican but a more moderate one. Bryan Smith and Doyle Beck spent a lot of money trying to unseat her in 2017. As for local GOP primary voters they’re all over. This city has produced some of the most conservative and most moderate Republicans in the #idleg

Today's general session at the Idaho Republican convention has started. Started with a prayer, pledge and the singing of the first (the one everyone knows) and less commonly known fourth verses of the Star Spangled Banner #idpol
Sen. Risch is speaking now. Said he brings greetings from Trump and that if the national media think they have him down they're wrong. "It drives the other side crazy, too bad for them. He does give America the leadership it demands." #idpol
Risch is defending Trump's handling of #COVID19. Points to the China travel ban, says Democrats called him a racist for it and the media doesn't talk about this. "Who was the first person to take dramatic action against the spread of coronavirus? It was Donald Trump!!"

I'm at the statehouse for today's unofficial "special session" of #idleg. Rally attendees have filled the gallary. I'm counting 12-15 representatives. Looks like we're getting started in a few moments here.
"We're all racists up here!" someone calls from the gallery. "Racists, extremists!"
Rep. Boyle starts it off, acknowledges this isn't a legislative session because they don't have quorum. Rep. Tim Remington leads a prayer. The crowd cheers at the end of the pledge of allegiance, and Boyle asks them to stay quiet as the Reps conduct business.

Heading to the Idaho Capitol for a rogue legislative session with far-right lawmakers opposed to @GovernorLittle's stay at home order where Ammon Bundy has promised to provide "crowd control." A twist: with Ada County's rollback to Stage 3, more than 50 people would be illegal.
Packed gallery. Few masks, zero social distancing.
I count 14 legislators so far but there are other meetings happening in the building.

Just in: Gov. Little orders 5 percent budget cuts across the board to next years state budget. Says Idaho won't balance the FY21 budget without cuts. That's a nearly $99M cut for public schools #idleg #idpol idahoednews.org/2jNCg
Little: “Unfortunately, we now face a new economic reality caused by the pandemic that was not anticipated when the budget was set.”
The plan will freeze teachers on the career ladder salary system and cut technology and IT funding by a combined $14 million at a time when schools are making an unprecedented shift to online learning.

I'm running for working families, families who are struggling to make ends meet, and families that are just trying to achieve the American Dream. We need someone who has these lived experiences representing Idaho's 1st Congressional District. #idpol #IdahoElections
On whether this administration has responded appropriately to the COVID-10 pandemic--No, absolutely not. This admin dissolved the pandemic response team, has been to slow to provide relief to families and small businesses.
We must take the lessons learned during this pandemic. This has highlighted the severe gaps and disparities in our health care system--we need universal health care now.

Essential workers have always been important--now that gov't. has realized this, we must pay a living wage.

1. Crapo is in a key position to oversee how #coronavirus relief money is spent and whether there is real oversight of $2 trillion. The opportunity for abuse and fraud is immense.

Why does it not give me comfort that his role is highlighted by - wait for it - the big bankers.
2. But...“The money is already out the door, and there’s no one watching where it’s going,” said Danielle Brian, of the Project on Government Oversight, a group that monitors government spending.

3. More from Danielle Brian: “There’s been a lot of talk but nothing has happened with any of the oversight mechanisms.”

Crapo also has the job of scrutinizing the IG appointed by Trump. No public statement on that beyond "we'll get to it when we can..."

I am a strong believer in local journalism.

I'm happy to say, journalism in the #Boise-area in 2019 is STRONG.

Here is a select list of some of the stories that most impacted or impressed me in 2019.

Happy Christmas reading!
