1) Of the $1.83B invested in PetroSaudi, at least $1B allegedly flowed to Good Star, a Seychelles shell company controlled by Jho Low. He used some of this to purchase mansions, fund partying, and gambling, and to buy a Bombardier jet, according to the DOJ. #billiondollarwhale /2
Low-controlled shell companies later transferred ownership of some properties to Riza Aziz, Najib’s stepson, according to the DOJ. Some of the money went to buy jewelry from a supplier to Rosmah. #billiondollarwhale /3
2) Of the $3.5B for power plants, around $1.4B went to an offshore company that was meant to look like Abu Dhabi fund Aabar. According to DOJ, Low used some of this for a stake in EMI Music Publishing and to finance The Wolf of Wall Street. #billiondollarwhale /4
3) Of the $3B meant for a new financial center in KL, around $1.5 moved via an array of offshore entities, the DOJ says. One of them, Tanore, allegedly sent $681M to Najib’s account for politics. Some was used to pay for a $27M pink diamond for Rosmah, the DOJ alleges. /5
Even more of the $1.83B from the first phase was lost, and, added together, the DOJ estimates at least $4.5B is missing from 1MDB. But that doesn’t take into account $1B or so that KWAP lent to 1MDB unit SRC. The hole could be as much as $5.5B or more. #billiondollarwhale /6
