Another day, another piece of disinformation from an alleged news site in the Donbass. H/t @DonaraBarojan for the research:

Kind of interesting how far it spread, too.
Reminds me of one of my all-time favourite stories out of a Donbass source: the "3,600 tanks" the US was allegedly deploying to Europe.

That's quite a few tanks.

And of course there was this gem, from Zvezda TV. The claim that a Russian SU-24 knocked out the USS Donald Cook by jamming it.

The whole story based off one spoof article. Which we found with one Facebook search.

In fact, I was EU and NATO correspondent for @dpa_intl. That fact is discernible, because it's in my Atlantic Council bio.

Ha, looks like I really pissed off the Kremlin "information weapon" (to quote its own editor-in-chief).

They hate it when someone reveals how they work by citing actual evidence.
Looks like this is what triggered them. @thetimes on the role of Sputnik's parent company, which is to "secure the interests of the Russian Federation in the information sphere."

Sputnik claims that doesn't apply to them. Seriously.

@Twitter and @Facebook both just announced takedowns of a small number of inauthentic assets, possibly tied to state actors.

Here's @TwitterSafety's take on it: a small number of assets, possibly state-linked.

15 accounts so far, low follower numbers, engaged in coordinated platform manipulation.

And here's @fbnewsroom: six accounts, nine pages. Taken down for coordinated inauthentic behaviour, i.e. a network of counterfeit accounts.

In Dec 2018, the US Senate receivedTWO research reports re: Russian social media targeted disinformation psyops: one from New Knowledge and the other from the Computational Propaganda Project at Oxford University and Graphika, a company that specializes in analyzing social media.
As per usual the mainstream media blew past the reports as if they merely restated previously released info such as that found in Mueller's Russian indictmentsand investigations of Cambridge Analytica’s similar and related shenanigans, and so did Twitter:
