A lot of people have been asking my thoughts on remote work. Here they are in no particular order:
is used by creators all over the 🌎. Having remote people from all across the 🌎 helps you build a better product for them.
If we only hired in NYC, we would have a much smaller pool of people to choose from. We may have to settle for someone rather than pick the best person because that person isn’t in NYC.
Remote people tend be better at autonomous work, which leads to higher productivity. Fewer meetings, which means fewer interruptions. Also, eating lunch when they want rather than when the team wants is a big one. Do you!
When working remotely, you feel less pressure to stay at your desk if you need a break. Easier to go grab a coffee, take a walk around the block or go to the gym. Less social pressure around "Why did Spencer leave his desk?"
Along the lines of the above, many people prefer working early in the morning or late at night, a typical 9-5 office work schedule doesn't let many people do their best work. Remote lets you work when you’re most productive.
Working remotely lets people better explore the world and not be tied down to working from a given location. For example, I spend a lot of the summer working in Connecticut because NYC is just too damn hot. 🔥
There's also a financial incentive: Having to pay everyone NYC or SF salaries means that you're having to compete with big co's like Google and Facebook on salary 🤑. How's a growing startup suppose to do that?
Generally, people who work remotely are much happier. I've seen this both with @Carbonmade and with @podiadotcom. 😃
Why do YOU work remote? Hat tip to companies like @github @zapier @wordpress @basecamp @harvest @buffer and others for paving the way.
