An interesting paper from Warwick University linking the timing and outcome of the #Brexit vote to the austerity programme that started after 2010
Compare and contrast Brexit vote with UKIP support in the 2014 euro elections. No surprise here. But why did UKIP support suddenly surge?
The analysis shows UKIP support rose sharply after austerity kicked in over 2011-13.
The report goes further to show UKIP support rising most in groups who had seen a decline in income and an increasing reliance on welfare before the cuts.
The direct link between austerity and the protest vote against the EU, whipped up by UKIP, shows the utter folly of @David_Cameron calling a referendum when he did.
It also suggests that an improvement in living standards over the next few months as the real income squeeze abates could see a further erosion of support for Brexit, already at its lowest ebb since 2016 according to @YouGov
The Brexit vote was a protest vote against a government responsible for a decline in living standards for many people. If the Treasury estimates are right, Brexit will further worsen living standards, particularly in areas like the North East that voted Leave by a wide margin.
This leaves the government in a difficult position. Go ahead with a policy that was voted for due to economic weakness and hurt the economy further. Or rethink and ask the public if they’re really sure they want you to do this. #PeoplesVote
The rise of @jeremycorbyn reflects exactly the same post-austerity dynamics as the rise of UKIP and the Conservative ERG.

All supporting Brexit to profit from the dissatisfaction that spawned it. All looking to break the country in order to remake it in their own image.
