1) I want to take a moment to talk about immigration on a biiiiiig broad-strokey conceptual level.
2) Immigration is... an economic tool. Really. Thats all there is to is. For a country immigration should only be an economic tool.
3) A country has a finite supply of labor but an economy has effectively infinite room to grow as new innovations and new industries create new demands for labor.
4) When that finite supply of labor is being fully exploited, that’s called full employment. Everyone who wants a job has a job. There is always some portion of the population unemployed, usually due to transitioning jobs. This called structural unemployment. Its built in.
5) The smart thing to do when you’re about to pass full employment is to bring in immigrants to help meet labor demands.
6) There should always be SOME immigration in select specialized fields, but there are times when its ok to open the floodgates and bring in a shit ton of people.
7) Here’s wherein the problem occurs here in the US: for DECADES, the Democrats have been counter-cyclical when it comes to immigration.
8) Reagan passed an amnesty bill, because the economy was booming, the US was reaching full employment, and the extra labor was needed. Democrats opposed this on a partisan basis.
9) As a counterpoint, during the Recession of the Dismal Eight, Obama threw open the floodgates despite high unemployment and low economic growth.
10) This not a ‘Dey Took Ur Jerbs’ comment. It simply is basic math: 3 people, 3 jobs. 1 job ends due to the recession, 1 person out of work. 1 person immigrates, now there’s 2 people out of work, and now it takes twice as many jobs to reach full employment
11) It was a countercyclical move that Democrats did for no other reason than their own ideology. Not economics. Not reason. Not in the interest of the country. Ideology.
12) So now, notice. Unemployment is dropping, so we’re reaching full employment soon. Its taking longer due to the excess labor pool but it is happening.
13) Trump has allowed Congress to beat itself into the ground on immigration, then blasted Democrats for abandoning DACA (they have. Expect that to be a thing in the midterms)
14) So what’s the plan, what’s the play, what’s the strategery?

Strategery is destroying your opponents ability to win. By getting them to jump the gun on immigration, Congress and Democrats were beaten into the ground. They cant win an immigration debate
15) Trump is going to wait for the economy to hit close to peak employment after the midterms (several industries are already feeling the pinch trying to get enough workers).
16) THEN he introduces fresh immigration reform. If anyone tries to give him any grief, he can just point out the last 6 months. Debate: over.
