Time for another @richcampbell talk already - this time on the history of .NET. #NDCOslo
Just realised that I've actually seen Richard deliver an earlier version of this talk at @ADNUGUK. Quite happy to listen again though!
Microsoft was originally a programming language company, not an OS company.
This slide takes me back to my own introduction to programming!
Nobody at Microsoft set out to write .NET.
Up until this point, Microsoft did not create their own languages - just different versions of existing languages.
C# was originally codenamed COOL (C Object-Oriented Language).
With MS breaking the Windows team up and rolling it into DevDiv, they are the most developer-focused they've been since the 80s.
