Shapiro opposes noting the obvious historical parallels for:

* marking people with yellow insignia.
* taking away parents’ children with a ruse that they’re bathing them.
* equating a class of human beings with vermin.

Yet he flings that analogy entirely gratuitously.
It’s almost as if Shapiro’s interest isn’t the responsible invocation of painful historical memory in our national discourse.
Shamefully, some of the people he’s tut-tutting here are Holocaust survivors and their families.
If anything, journalists have been far too shy about explaining these parallels. For example, too many people assume readers understand the significance of the “bathing” ruse.

Survey show Holocaust education is fading from our collective memory. nyti.ms/2GT3bYu?smid=n…
From the recent survey:

* 41 percent of millennials do not know the death count of the Holocaust.
* 66 percent don’t know what Auschwitz was.

It’s the press’ responsibilty to say “The Nazis did this,” when that’s true.

To note a parallel is not to imply equivalence.
