A real life civil war is brewing in this country. It's not being alarmist saying it out loud and it's not being dramatic by pointing out the obvious trajectory we've been on since 11/8/2016.

And I'm starting to believe there is no way to step back from the brink.

This is partly due to the fact that some people want a war. They want to force a new constitutional convention and they want to take us back not just years or decades, but an entire century.

White supremacists have been lying in wait for this moment since Brown v. BOE.

Browse 4Chan for a day and you will find the idea is popular and widespread. Go there and look and tell me I'm wrong.

Listen to what they are saying in South Carolina and tell me I'm wrong.

Scroll the M A G A tweets and tell me I'm wrong.

Worse, this is exactly what @realDonaldTrump wants. It's probably exactly what he's been planning since day one.

Breakouts of violence, which at this point feel almost imminent, will be a gift to him and his plans to deconstruct America and remake it in his desired white supremacist image.

A sitting President can call it for any number of reasons.

It's an extreme measure that yields extreme power.

And it's happened in miniature here several times in the past. It's what ultimately led to the Japanese internment camps.

Which is why I was so shaken after learning of the Navy plans to construct makeshift tent cities.

It means to me that I was always right and that he knows where things are leading and has his plans in place.

Martial Law will lead to the dissolution of the Legislature and a complete suspension of Habeas Corpus.

No more courts, Supreme or otherwise.

Think about that.

The President and the military become absolute dictator and the only recognized legal authority.

Again, think about that.

This is all perfectly possible and entirely legal.

This is not done badly written suspense novel.

This is America in 2018 and it really could happen.

For those hesitant to believe this is possible let me throw out some questions, rhetorical in nature, and some cold hard facts.

Do you believe Trump has ever acted w/ anything other than a reckless level of self-confidence and a fundamental disregard for the role of law?

Do you believe that Trump & his cohorts would do anything to avoid criminal prosecution?

Do you believe that his coconspirators would not aid him in his pursuit to avoid prosecution?

Has everything he's done not make this feel like the logical conclusion to his madness?

Do you believe white supremacy, now sitting officially and openly in the halls of power is going to willingly go back into the closet?

Donald Trump is a sociopath who has studied and admired Adolph Hitler for decades.

In his first move as President Elect he installed several leading white supremacists into influential positions in his inner circle. One of those men was Steve Bannon, a man with whom he not coincidentally happens to share many philosophical ideas.

Insane, radical ideas.

At the root of these shared beliefs is the idea that the current American model is irredeemably broken. To fix it, they belief, will require the complete deconstruction of every governmental institution and the failing of the U.S. economy.

They believe this at their core.

What I've written are all facts and logical hypothesis.

Let me add some well meaning conjecture. Things I believe deeply.

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have been planning this since at least 2014, and probably longer.

They are steps ahead of us even when we doubt so.

I believe we've overestimated his stupidity, and have underestimated his political acumen or resources.

There's more, lots more, but that's what's most essential to this tale.

I don't have a solution to any of this. I don't know what or how we mobilize against this.

What I do know is that at the very least we have to stop pretending like this isn't happening or couldn't.

We have to stop pretending that this is a situation that democracy will fix with it's own special kind of magic.

We have to stop pretending that we have even been a true democracy since 11/8/2016 when the most important expression of such, an actual Presidential election, was stolen.

We have to say this all out loud and, in the end, somehow #resist it all.
