It's really not that complicated. How we got here and the things that happened to get us here may be complicated, but it doesn't take more than a kindergarten level education to understand the 'when all is said and done' reality.

You cheat in sports and unless you're the New England Patriote and are discovered they will destroy you.

When it was discovered that he had cheated they took him and every single person that aided him or lied for him and utterly destroyed them.
They took back his wins and nearly erased his name from the record books.

It's a truth we learn from almost the beginning of our lives. If you cheat you cannot win. Cheat and there will be consequences & there will be shame.
At the very least anything that you were rewarded w/ for "winning" is taken back. Because those rewards were illegitimate.

We seem to have collectively forgotten everything we have ever learned as children or even as adults.
But that is why something has to give. That's why Donald Trump has to be taken down.
Because those things we have learned are right, they matter. And we must reaffirm them.

Punishments for cheating are necessarily harsh because If you reward cheating you encourage it.
It's not enough to just say someone cheated, you have to also take back their rewards and everything they did as winner.
If you don't then people will continue to cheat.

Let cheating be rewarded and it won't take long for everyone to start cheating b/c you've shifted the contest, whether you realize it or not, from who was the better player to who was the better cheater.
And I don't want to live in a world where those are the lessons we teach.
