A beautiful woman who has sacrificed so much for this nation.

And yet I struggle to see how Jack or Bobby Kennedy would embrace immigration policies that didn’t insist on both compassion for illegals with a firm commitment to sending people home who broke our laws to get here.
Still, I understand the outrage. #Trump is giving illegals two choices:

1) Give up asylum claim, get your kids back, be deported immediately.

2) Claim asylum, stay jailed for 1+ yr, won’t see your kids.

The stop gap solution of putting these families on military bases is an appropriate step, one that Obama took as well.

So let us provide food, shelter, and an expedited trip home.

Our goals in Syria are to 1) materially degrade ISIS in order to 2) help restore governance.

Goal One has been achieved.

Trump’s gamble is that Russia, Iran, & Turkey will keep it that way, paving the path to Goal Two.

AKA Victory through their blood, their treasure.

Not ours
To minimize rollback of Goal One, Trump must:

1) Maintain network of informants
2) Monitor threats
3) Neutralize new threats

We do the latter with a mix of airstrikes, covert action, & alliance w/ Turkey & Iraq.

Trump & his team know this. Esp the importance of Turkey/Iraq.

Sexual assault is not a car accident.

Conflating your auto trauma with the experiences of rape victims is one of the most absurd pieces of psychobabble I’ve read on this Kavanaugh fiasco to date.

Bravo.
Most rapists target people they know.

Your auto accident, on the other hand, didn’t involve the horror of being stalked, physically tortured, or molested as a kid by a friendly face.
Folks who have suffered from sexual assault have HAD IT with pundits and latter day Sherlock Holmes who think they can divine what happened in 1982.

You can’t. So stop. Let the witnesses speak for themselves.

Dem opposition to Gorsuch was minimal because he was a conservative replacing a conservative (Scalia).

Kavanaugh, however, is a conservative replacing a moderate (Kennedy). He may well reverse key Dem priorities.

That’s a nightmare for Ds. And why we’re seeing the meltdown.
To be very clear, I’m not defending Kavanaugh. I’m looking at the evidence dispassionately.

Thus far, none of the allegations have merit. Some of the women may have been assaulted but not by Kavanaugh.

Still, they have the right to a hearing. America should listen. Fairly.
As a Dem, being dispassionate with Kavanaugh allegations is wickedly hard. I know his SCOTUS rulings will likely run counter to my beliefs.

But Dems have lost the Senate & Presidency. Elections have consequences.

Losing the Supreme Court will be the greatest.

Time to buck up.

1. The movement of people across borders is a constant in world history (though the rate and direction of movement has ebbed and flowed over time). This tweet, however, helped me see the urgent contemporary connection between current/future immigration policies & climate change.
2. Put most simply, the world can either strengthen & militarize borders to deal with coming climate migration (build walls), or they can engage in a collaborative process of rethinking how they want those borders to work, how porous they should be. The latter is very hard work.
3. The nation-state as an institution has in many ways been weakened recently, largely by the mechanisms of global capitalism, but I don't see many signs that nations will be disappearing any time soon. Thus, nations (possessing geographical borders) will continue to exist.

I just had an epiphany: #beautiful has become my new favorite word. That may seem strange given my circumstances. In June 2017 I was diagnosed with incurable stage IV #lungcancer.
I naively thought that maybe my lifetime of being a health and fitness junkie would insulate me from such a medical fate. Wrong. And So here I am, fifty-one years old and not sure how much time I have left on earth. I know I could, or maybe should, feel angry, cheated, jaded.
