Out of places to house immigration detainees, the feds have turned to already overcrowded federal prisons. Some are triple-bunked and confined to their cells 22 hours each day. Good reporting from @bykevinj ->

DOJ says it's housing immigration detainees in "a status analogous to pre-trial detainees." (Pretrial detainees are not infrequently held in conditions more restrictive than those imposed on convicts.)
DOJ says it has the extra capacity to detain migrants. But its prisons have been forcing teachers, secretaries and nurses to pull guard duty because they don't have enough guards.
