In the face of growing organized protests calling to abolish ICE, many Democrats will soon bravely come out in favor of rebranding it to shake off the bad PR.
Bernie Sanders leading the way of this one, as always, seeing if he can get away with changing the meaning of "abolish ICE" to "rename ICE and make it a bit more civilized."
Here's the litmus test: until middle aged suburban wine moms can no longer call someone up because their Mexican waiter was rude to them, and have federal agents show up demanding their papers like god damn fascists, we haven't abolished ICE.

In the last five years McDonald's has averaged $8 billion in profits per year. Their employees average $8.47 per hour. That's $17,617 per year at full time. They have 235k employees, so if the profits were returned to the employees that number could be raised to $51,659 per year.
We live in a wealthy society, poverty is a creation of the business owners. If anyone is working and poor, it's usually because someone else has a piece of paper that entitles them to steal labor from the workers. No one has to be poor industrialized countries. No one.
When people say we can't afford to raise the minimum wage...no, we can. The parasites who do no labor just need to get a smaller piece of the pie. Preferably zero percent. McDonald's gave $3 billion in dividends last year. What did shareholders do to deserve that money? Nothing.

The weird thing about asking "how we will pay for" universal healthcare is that the question is almost incoherent. We already have enough doctors, hospital, medicine, etc to take care of everyone. It is already getting paid for, now. Some people are just denied access to it.
This is in contrast to say, asking how we would pay for a high speed rail from New York to LA. You see…we don't have one. We'd have to redirect 1000s of engineers, laborers, and natural resources to build it.

In other words, we'd have to ask what we'd give up in order to do it.
But we wouldn't have to give up anything to do Universal Healthcare, because we already have the hospitals. The doctors are already getting paid. We just have to stop denying care to poor people, and change the bureaucracy of how the money is gathered from insurance to taxes.

Here's some stats on total immigrants living here:
Mexico: 12,680,000
Guatemala: 980,000
Canada: 890,000
UK: 750,000

Here are the 2017 ICE deportation numbers:
Mexico: 128,765
Guatemala: 33,570
Canada: 353
UK: 151

Hmm…
This is not about wealth, poorer Asian countries are ignored, alongside European countries.

Immigrant populations:
China: 2,420,000
Philippines: 2,080,000
Vietnam: 1,410,000
Honduras: 600,000

ICE Deportations:
China: 525
Philippines: 182
Vietnam: 71
Honduras: 22,381
This is not about those countries having legal immigrants only. Pew Research estimates unauthorized immigrants (in millions):
Central American: 1.6
Asia: 1.5
South American: 0.6
Europe/Canada: 0.5

Asia and Europe have similar numbers, but are virtually ignored by ICE. Why? Race.

The insistence by white male writers that there is a two-white-man race out there between Bernie & Beto is so deeply, stunningly misogynist, it takes my breath away.

How is it POSSIBLE that these folks missed the blue wave which was fundamentally female--driven by women voters?
Not just driven by women voters, but driven by women candidates. Left-leaning women candidates, including WOC who ousted long-time older white male incumbents like....Bernie Sanders.

How is anyone missing this fact?
It's a major reason why Sanders' numbers have plummeted.

I did an entire thread to the Manafort - Devine connection.

It was recently revealed that Devine was sharing polling data with Manafort during the primary. They are all in this together & the media ignores it purposely.

1/ After it was revealed on @maddow that Manafort/Russia was working as far back as 2012 to smear Hillary Clinton it made more sense.

Think about this. Who was going to primary against Pres Obama in 2012? Bernie Sanders
2/ Why didn't #Sanders follow through? My opinion based on the timeline of events & the extensive research I have done on #TadDevine, is that Sanders was told to hold off until 2016 by Devine. We know that Devine was working with #Manafort on the Ukraine election during this time

1. I've said this before, but it bears repeating. The socialized programs that we see in Europe didn't simply emerge as successful programs. These programs were committed to and refined across administrations. This passing of the baton is excruciatingly rare in American politics.
2. Instead, cling to the pendulum swing. A swing from majority ideology to ideology - a continual construction and destruction of progress. Granted, it has rarely been as blatant as we see with the current administration- where destruction of the previous admin is paramount.
3. Any new program is going to have problems. If the response to these problems is to attack not only the creators, but the premise, then the opposing party can rally enough support to take a majority and, effectively, do a 180. We do this over and over.

allow me to explain:

first thing to realize is that compromise usually involved splitting the difference (e.g. arbitration -- if you've ever been privy, you know exactly what i mean).

next you need to understate that starting positions matter
now we come to the republicans..

they know to start out WAY to the right of anything sane

democrats, being slightly more reasonable tend to open with somthing they thing will win the other side over to their POV.

... it ... will ... not ....

so this happens.
after a few years of this (say since 1980) you end up with both parties being FAR to the right of anything that a rational person would consider CENTER

enter #bernie sanders and his populist, moderate policy positions like #medicareforall or raising the minimum wage
