/ PM's Brexit proposal will turn UK into a eunuch without even protecting 80% of our economy, services. And to get a deal, we'll have to make more concessions to EU. This is NOT a soft Brexit. It is a castration Brexit. We need a #PeoplesVote
/ May doesn't just want to follow EU rules on goods. She wants to do same on competition policy - and is hinting she'll do same for environmental, social and consumer policy too. How is this taking back control? Vote Leave = LOSE control
/ We'll pay "due regard" to the ECJ too. No harm in following EU rules or ECJ when we make the rules and have judge on the court. But doing so without a vote on rules or a judge turns us into a quasi-colony. #StopBrexit #PeoplesVote
/ PM's customs wheeze isn't just a bureaucratic nightmare that won't be ready for years (if ever); it's a one-way scheme where we collect tariffs for EU but it doesn't collect tariffs for us. Welcome vassal state.
/ May is dishonestly spinning we'll be able to have an independent trade policy. Even if her customs wheeze works, we won't be able to diverge from EU rules on goods. And why would other countries both to do a deal with us if they can get backdoor access to our market via EU?
/ It's not as if PM's proposals will even fly with the EU. To get a deal, she'll have to make at least four more concessions - on money, laws, dumping and agriculture/fish.
/ EU will say we have to pay into its budget if we are to have access to its single market for goods. No harm paying now as we get to decide how many is spent. But in future it'll be taxation without representation.
/ EU will also insist we can't choose not to apply any new laws we don't like (part of May's proposal). We currently make the rules. In future, we'll be rule-takers ad infinitum. How's that good for a proud nation?
/ They'll also turn PM's hint not to undercut the EU on social, environmental and consumer policy into a firm commitment - and maybe throw in tax policy too. We shouldn't slash and burn regulations. But letting EU tell us what to do is road to serfdom.
/ May dishonestly pretends we can pull out of Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy while maintaining free trade in agrifoods. Fat chance. To keep borders open, we'll have to follow these policies too - but won't get to shape them. More vassaldom.
/ What's more, without free movement of services, 80% of our economy, we'll be poorer. We'll also have less money for public services like the NHS.
/ We must fight this castration Brexit. We demand a #PeoplesVote at the end of the talks - and the right to stay IN the EU if the people don't like it.
