(thread) A couple of christian-ish articles have crossed my newsfeed lately, both of which had multiple major problems, but they were united by one theme: that of motivating their audience to modify their behavior by holding out the hope of finding a marriage partner.
The church really needs to stop doing this. Singles are not the church's, or the world's, problem. Any problem we have in this life is rooted in sin. Any real solution begins and ends with Christ.
My marriage is a blessing to me and, I hope, a means of edifying the Church. But the Church needs the edification of its single members, too.
Single brothers and sisters: marriage is indeed a good gift. This is not a "the grapes were sour anyway" type of post. But even the best marriage can do nothing more than dimly image that which YOU ALREADY HAVE.
Unmarried Christians have so much to offer the Body. I treasure all my friendships, but there is something uniquely special about the friendships I have with unmarried members of the Church.
If you're married, instead of immediately falling into the pattern of giving advice on how to make an unmarried person more "marriagiable," be a friend. You might be surprised how sharpening such friendships can be. #UnityInDiversity
