When I tell you this is going to cause so many health problems and potentially ED-related deaths, I am not exaggerating.

In ninth grade I didn’t eat for two months because I wanted people to respect me and think I was hot. I was an inch from the hospital, my heartbreat was 1/5
irregular, I was losing hair, and my skin was so thin - this is an incredibly irresponsible approach to this story.

They could have gone ahead with this narrative if she came back to school hot AND fat. That is a thing. We need to stop making it seem like they’re mutually 2/5
exclusive. There is no reason she couldn’t have found a fashion retailer that made clothes that actually fit her body properly (instead of just scaling up patterns meant for lean bodies), met a makeup artist friend, and come back to school with a vengeance.

3/5
That would have not only been a lot more responsible from a social standpoint, it would have made a MUCH BETTER IMPACT on young people, would have created more opportunities for diverse bodies in entertainment, and would have carried a much more brandable, PR-positive message.4/5
In every single way, the skinny element of this story is a disservice to the revenge plot itself and to so many impressionable young people.

Fat and hot are not mutually exclusive.
Fat and respected are not mutually exclusive.

We need to change the conversation.
