Small rant time. Being a type 1 diabetic is not something that I could have prevented. It is not something that will go away. I am stuck with it. My body does not make the insulin that i need to survive. Therefore I must purchase it. Must. There is no other way for me to live.
This is not an option for me. The prices of these insulin that I require have increased to outrageous levels. $550 for on of my monthly scripts and $340 for the other, not including my premium and other miscellaneous Healthcare goods.
I work two jobs; I have for the past year and a half. I work seven days a week. My rent is always paid, somehow I am able to get the insulin I need. It has been an ongoing and frustrating struggle. People I've mentioned this to just don't seem to comprehend.
I've made the absolute minimum of progress on my student loans and I have had no vacation for the past three years. My savings is nonexistent. I know there's a lot of other type 1s out there who are not as fortunate as I to be able to make ends meet. Some have children, families.
It's honestly just unfair. Half of my income shouldn't be gone to this trivial thing. This "being alive". There's a lot of information that I'm still trying to sort through as to why the prices have gotten so high. It just sometimes it feels like profits are more important.
So many other countries have this figured out. If it were easy, and it's not, I would be emigrated already. Apologies for the rant. Don't pity me, but please try and become aware of what millions of people are trying to deal with in the US. #insulin4all
