8,000 people showed in 2 days to attend the wake. Isn't that excessive? During the Joseon Dynasty, if 1 of your parents died, you were to quit your job and enter a mourning period lasting 3 years. Part of Confucian ancestor worship & veneration of the dead

You also had to prepare meals, set tables and talk to the deceased as if he's still alive. Everyday for 3 years. Some got away with doing only 2 years. Thanks God, these days, you only do it once a year. Now you know where this came from.
