Continuing coverage of SK progressive politician & labor activist Roh Hee-chan, who hurled himself from 17th floor of his brother's high-rise apartment. After being accused of receiving funds from troll-farm operator Druking, he took his own life on Jul 23

Traveling to pay Roh last respects were handicapped people riding wheelchairs, day laborers, cashiers who work at GS25s, union members, single moms, etc. -- those who felt indebted to Roh who mounted vigorous social activism on their behalf over the years

Who are these in blue vests w/Buddhist praying hands? They're KTX (Korea Transit eXpress) stewardesses fired in 2006 who've been waging legal battle to get their jobs back. They feel Roh championed their cause. This was right before they laid face down news.khan.co.kr/kh_news/khan_a…
Even someone from another end of the political spectrum and another aisle of the National Assembly: former Seoul mayoral candidate and Liberty Korea member Na Kyung-won attends Roh's wake and bids him adieu

You can check out who attended Roh's wake here. Some revealing figures: former acting president Hwang Kyo-ahn; 2017 presidential candidate Yoo Seung-min from Bareun-Mirae (then Bareun); Na here; spy chief Suh Hoon and his first lieutenant Kim Sang-gon
Here's another conserv mourning Roh's death. Why when he's from the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wing of SK politics? Because many such figures were student protesters/labor activists themselves. This one was once active in Roh's progressive-socialist party
So is this one, former Lee MB aide. He also served with Roh before realizing errors of his ways & drifting right. Many center-right SK politicians have checked pasts. Some were heavily involved in labor protests and national liberation, like this one here

Basic questions answered: Why is Lib Kor head Kim Sung-tae & his posse standing around in sox? Have to take shoes off and stand prior to face-planting before the deceased. Plus light some incense and put it out by burying it in the sand. That's the custom

Then you do this. Some do it twice. Some do it up to 4 times. But don't wanna be doing this while walking around in shoes. If you wanna be thrown out, walk in with shoes and blow out the incense you lighted instead of burying it in the sand pot.

8,000 people showed in 2 days to attend the wake. Isn't that excessive? During the Joseon Dynasty, if 1 of your parents died, you were to quit your job and enter a mourning period lasting 3 years. Part of Confucian ancestor worship & veneration of the dead

You also had to prepare meals, set tables and talk to the deceased as if he's still alive. Everyday for 3 years. Some got away with doing only 2 years. Thanks God, these days, you only do it once a year. Now you know where this came from.
