Here's a little-appreciated fact about podcast feeds: they're just RSS feeds with "enclosures," where the "enclosure" is a http link to any MP3, anywhere on the internet.
That means you can create podcast feeds of literally any publicly downloadable MP3 in the world. I do this all the time: when I appear on someone else's podcast, I push that MP3 out in my own feed.
The tantalizing possibility here is for an anthology feed, like "Here are five podcasts that (say) @stephenfry enjoyed this week" (ZOMG would I listen to that). Fry could just paste the MP3 URLs of his top five into a suitably configured Wordpress form and away we go.
Recall that RSS has two use-cases: 1. tracking frequently updated feeds and 2. tracking RARELY updated feeds. This method would be really useful for VERY occasional feeds.
Think of something like "I'm @romanmars and I listen to EVERYTHING for professional reasons. Every now and again, I find something SO DAMN COOL I have to link to it. I update this feed when and if something is too cool not to pass along. Maybe once a year, maybe twice in a week."
To say nothing of this use-case: "I'm @JesseThorn and I help produce more podcasts than you could possibly listen to, but *I* do. Here is my feed of the must-listen episodes from this week's crop."
It's basically blogging in podcast form. I have been waiting for more than a decade for someone to do this and I'm still waiting. Dagnabbit, Lazyweb, do I have to do everything myself?
