The two main groups rallying today in #PDX — Patriot Prayer and the Proud Boys. Here’s some background on the Proud Boys.
The Proud Boys are an @splcenter-designated hate group established in the midst of the 2016 presidential election by Gavin McInnes, who co-founded VICE, but was removed from the company over a decade ago.

The Proud Boys are self-described “western chauvinists” who adamantly deny any connection to the racist “alt-right,” insisting they are simply a fraternal group spreading an “anti-political correctness” and “anti-white guilt” agenda. splcenter.org/hatewatch/2017…
Their disavowals of bigotry are belied by their actions: rank-and-file Proud Boys and leaders regularly spout white nationalist memes + maintain affiliations with extremists. They are known for anti-Muslim rhetoric + have appeared alongside other hate groups at extremist rallies.
The group organizes online and in person, recently receiving a huge boost to their private “vetting pages” hosted on Facebook. splcenter.org/hatewatch/2018…
The group has promoted violence since it’s onset. In Jan 2017, McInnes was filmed punching a counter-protester. After a speech the next month turned violent, he said, “I cannot recommend violence enough. It’s a really effective way to solve problems” aljazeera.com/news/2018/07/e…

Peter Brown is a US citizen who was mistakenly detained by ICE after local sheriffs arrested him. We're suing. npr.org/2018/12/18/677…
In January, 17 Florida counties signed Basic Ordering Agreements, which compensate local sheriffs for their collaboration with ICE. Our lawsuit is the first to challenge a Florida sheriff for unlawfully detaining people at ICE’s request as part of a BOA. splcenter.org/news/2018/12/0…

He works for @comcast. Here he is making a white power gesture in his Comcast uniform.
2) Here's his Facebook profile, where he lists "Comcast" as his workplace next to the laurel iconography of the Proud Boys, an @splcenter- designated hate group.

@comcastcares-- do you care that your employee Andrew Kovalic is a member of a hate group?
3) Andrew also supports antisemitic conspiracy theories.

In their "private" Security chat for 11/17, organizer Jerry Smith says, "Its semitism and identity politics that's the problem."

Andrew made sure to hit "like" on that one.

1.) This is Maxwell Hare with Gavin McInnes. Max is a Proud Boy-- an @splcenter-designated hate group-- who was attacking protesters in Providence on Saturday. I suspect he's currently unemployed, but I need you to call his old union and make sure he doesn't work with them again.
2.) Not only did he not wear a mask, but his friends tagged him as being in Providence on 10/6, too. When someone asked what they were doing in Providence, his friend replied, "Crushing antifa skulls."

Patriot Prayer member and white nationalist grifter Haley Adams is attempting to foment rape-apologist movement using the #HimToo hashtag. We thought it might be illuminating to contribute to it with details of domestic and sexual abuse by Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer members.

2/ Important context: As head of @TheJusticeDept, the Attorney General has final say over all cases before the administrative #immigration courts. AG may snatch a case away from the Board of Immigration Appeals anytime and decide it himself by directing BIA to refer it to him.
3/ Here is the 2014 BIA holding--upholding precedent from 1989--which the AG was so intent on getting to his own desk. It may not mean much to anyone who had the good sense not to go to law school, but take a shot. (No, really: *take an actual shot* and give it a try.)
