One reason I really dislike Bernie and the whole Bernie/Rose/DSA schtick is I support universal healthcare, affordable education with grants more than loans, a living wage, not just a higher minimum wage, and many other economic justice reforms. I believe in progressive taxation
strong labor unions, market and banking regulations and environmental protection. I want universal pre-K, affordable childcare and a flourishing working economy. I want infrastructure investment and an activist government that works to foster the commonweal
But because I also think all those reforms are temporary and ephemeral so long as racism is used to lever people against the safety net and the government, that we must focus on racial justice and make voting rights the center of our campaigns
i am labeled a neoliberal and a centrist which cracks me up. No centrist canvasses for single payer and gay rights in Weizer, Idaho. I cannot ally with people who deprecate human rights as identity politics.
I cannot ally with a presidential hopeful who thinks abortion rights and gay rights are a distraction from the "real issues" and who slanders their advocates as "the Establishment". Sanders' supporters have been relentlessly misogynist and racist in their attacks on women and POC
And couple that with Sanders inability to recognize the majority of the working class is made of women and POC, his obsession with pandering to Trump's racists, and it's clear that their bigotry is a feature, not a bug.
Bernie would not have won. And that's a good thing. He is at best racially anxious, to use the term in vogue today. He is obtuse to race and gender oppression and a danger all who value human rights.
I really don't care that he votes "correctly" a lot of the time. He does not lead and he sees human rights as a distraction, a nuisance that he really would rather he did not have to care about. He would happily ignore the 14th Amendment and let the states do whatever they like
One of the few abiding values that Sanders holds from issue to issue is states' rights. I don't want a states rights fanatic in the Senate, let alone the White House.
