.@AndrewMwenda loves to point out that FDC has been hijacked by an army of extremists, the intolerants, the radicals. I would be shocked if that was not the case. Extremism is the end game of politics. We see it in the form of far right and far left. A THREAD: 👇👇👇
In his book; 'Beyond Good and Evil', the Philosopher Nietzsche warned; "He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster.
And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee."
Often times, we are a reflection of that which we fight, when one fights demons, they often times become a demon. For over 20 decades, Besigye and the opposition have been fighting Museveni, they have morphed into him without realising.
The other reason we become what we fight is that as we fight something, we also expose our own inefficiencies and short-comings. We rarely fight evil with good. That only happens in utopias. Evil is usually fought with evil (a disguised angelic evil).
That's why many argue that Donald Trump is an effect not a cause. The Far Left created the 'Far Right' @realDonaldTrump. Barack Obama had campaigned in poetry and governed in prose, it was just clear at the end that America was ready to swing its pendulum to a Trump.
Since 2001, NRM subjected the opposition to the worst of violence. They were beaten, mauled, imprisoned, had false charges pressed. An opposition that can withstand such atrocities will rarely come out the same? It will be extremist in a sense. It's accumulated anger upon anger.
We can see it all around the world, wherever the forces being fought are extreme, Newton's third law comes in play; "for every action, an equal and opposite reaction exists." You have a Chamisa in Zimbabwe, a Raila/Miguna in Kenya, Malema in SA, and extreme liberals in USA.
In the end, we can only be a little more forgiving as we bash FDC for not presenting a calmer alternative, it's disillusion on our part. And if Muntu and team form their own party, it too will become extreme or else no Ugandan will take it serious.
