QA should not be treated as disposable. QA is a skilled profession. QA validates that the game is representative of the quality the company wants to achieve in their product. QA is not just playing games all day. QA is finding game breaking bugs so they don’t reach the player.
QA is loading the game on multiple devices 100s of times making sure the game doesn’t crash on launch. QA is thinking about potential bugs ahead of time when a new feature is concepted. QA is running through lengthy test matrices every time to make sure no new bugs have crept up.
QA is scrutinising every single art effect, animation, sound, gameplay element, input, making sure every single feature in the game is working as designed. QA is understanding submission guidelines for multiple platforms.
QA is knowing enough about every discipline to know which team to send your bug to. QA is knowing at which point of the project to start creating useful bugs. QA is knowing enough about the code structure of the game to check what your current bug might also affect.
QA is important. QA is valuable. QA is not the bottom of the hierarchy ladder in this industry. Pay your QA what they are worth. Love your QA. We do hard work that not a lot of people see. We deserve to be here as much as any other profession. End thread ❤️
