I've said it before. The idea people vote Republican to redress class greivances is a fiction. People vote Republican to redress racial grievances.

The media's decades-long willful refusal to understand this is what set the stage for Trump to take over the GOP with ease.
Trump didn't really even need to do that much to reshape the GOP in his image. He didn't really change them on policy.

All he did was smack down the code words and decorum the GOP has used for years to hide their appeals to white supremacy.
When Trump supporters talk about being "redpilled," what they mean is that Trump showed them how hypocritical & pointless it is to cloak racism as something else. They ought to wear it on their sleeve and screw the feelings of anyone who is offended, they weren't with you anyway.
Even if Democrats win Congress this year, even if Trump loses the presidency in 2020, we aren't going to have any lasting social progress in this country until and unless we collectively acknowledge all of this.
