One year ago, our daughter relapsed with anorexia. You all gave my family hope with your stories of recovery. After months of treatment (ongoing), I’m happy to report she’s back at college (closer to home) and doing well. Not sure what the future holds, but right now she’s good.
All this is to say, I’ve learned an incredible amount about eating disorders, insurance, and - in particular - treatment centers. Some wonderful, some horrible. I’m always willing to share what I’ve learned with families that are struggling. DM or tweet me if I can be of service.
The worst thing you can do if you or a loved one has an eating disorder is to be ashamed. Like any other disease, it only gets better when it’s acknowledged and treated. Don’t hesitate to tell your family or someone you trust if you’re struggling.

Now that my pieces for the one-year mark of Hurricane Maria are ready to go live Thursday, I can finally allow myself to feel for all the women who trusted me with their stories. My heart breaks for the horrors they went through. At the same time, I'm so in awe of their strength.
I hope that after all the “Puerto Rico: One Year After Hurricane Maria” news packages fade away from your minds, you still remember that there’s a lot of work left to do in the island. Puerto Ricans still need your help.
I also hope that you remember that the issues affecting Puerto Ricans are bigger than Maria, bigger than Trump. There’s 120 years of colonial baggage the U.S. needs to address in order to truly uplift our people.
