You don't need a referendum. You didn't start Brexit by referendum, and you don't have to finish it that way.
You didn't even execute Brexit by Act of Parliament.
You gave Article 50 notice by executive order. What the fuck makes you think you can't undo it the same way. Jesus, people are thick.
If you want to withdraw Article 50, it can only be done by the same authority that you gave it in the first place. By executive order.

You don't need to swallow all this bilge about referendums.
The Prime Minister - whoever that happens to be - asks the European Union to withdraw the Article 50 notice.

That is it. That's all that has to happen. The rest is just people inventing complicated shit in their own head.

But the stupidity of English politics . . . We'd better go through this properly so we all understand what's what.
The "deal" we're talking about - but anyone using that word has no right to call themself a journalist - is a withdrawal agreement. Just that, and nothing more.
When they say a "deal" can be done, what they mean is complete a withdrawal agreement.
And that's the easy part, remember. Withdrawal agreement. Could have done that at any time in the last two years.

Theresa May is the global village idiot, and English political journalism would embarrass a three year old.
There is a problem with BBC news. The BBC has always been a bit inflated with this image of itself as the journal of national record.
And what they've done in Brexit is they've adopted government posture. To the extent they've almost become a propaganda outfit.
The BBC has chosen, quite politically, to disregard the European Union as a valid source of information.
And that has left the country entirely ignorant because it turns out the European Union has been providing valid information.

No. The quality that's missing from Corbyn, that Blair had infinite amounts of, is discipline.

Tony Blair got to the top of the Labour Party with the kind of discipline that Corbyn has never learnt.
Corbyn became Labour leader by accident. He never expected to get the job, and he never wanted it. It just came his way by crazy fortune, and he has staggered around ever since in a clueless muddle.
And it's that complete absence of discipline that most resembles Trump. They both came in the same way, as a clownish escapade, and neither of them has shown any sign of even the basic maturity for the job.

Sat in High Court. The grounds of @UKEUchallenge are going to ensure some revealing facts emerge about this #brexit.

The notification of withdrawal act 2017 merely gave the PM permission to notify a decision which hasn’t been made according to our constitutional requirements.
The PM’s decision which @A50challenge ensured was located is illegitimate.

How can one person make a decision which impacts on every EU citizen ?

Court cannot quash result of the ref bc it was not legally binding. Claimants seek declaration result is invalid bc of breach of spending &fraud. Gov are treating something which was advisory as binding. Ct plays essential role in looking at process which led to this result.

It's true that there were very many incredibly, boneshakingly dense Brexiters, but they were leading, not following

2) Melanie Philips is a regular pro #Brexit columnist, arguing for a tough line on the EU.

This is her finding out *only last night* that we represent 10% of the EUs total exports compared to 45% of ours going to the EU

Her confused look is remarkable

3) David Davis, Brexit secretary and former EU minister, believed *even after the referendum* that we could strike illegal individual deals with Germany, France etc, something utterly forbidden under EU law

This was the basis of his Leave position

1/ Why is @UKLabour not opposing #Brexit when Tory Brexit is in tatters & 72% of the Labour supporters do oppose Brexit ? This is a very intriguing question & it feels counterintuitive, especially since most Labour MPs oppose Brexit too. But is it?
2/ Despite Labour party & and supporters opposing #Brexit, supporting it is the surest way to to winning the next general election. And this has nothing to do with wanting to attract Leave voters at all - nothing at all.
3/ There is only one Brexit scenario that will keep the @Conservatives in power: A hard #Brexit that at the same time is a success. And we know how likely that is. All other scenarios will almost automatically lead to a @UKLabour Govt.

1) Thread - Corbynites FFS wake up!
I did resolve (again) to stop attacking Corbyn & to focus on the government in fighting #Brexit
But the last few days have given me a reality check again
Yesterday's #PeoplesVoteMarch was a triumph, over 100k people all over the news
Then this
2) so really I have 2 questions for Corbyn supporters
Firstly, yesterday's march was undoubtedly a progressive march against something a majority of Labour party supporters agree would be damaging for the majority

A #PeoplesVote may not be everyone's ideal, but ...
3) ...at least the march raises the profile of the anti #Brexit movement and shows people it's not settled.

So how did the Labour movement, which is supposed to be about exactly this kind of action, find it's Leadership officially against this and standing with the government?

20 *more* reasons I voted to leave for #Brexit.

1. The only people who get to influence the EU are those who support its aims and direction of travel. Everyone else is frozen out - even if elected to the Parliament. They are ringfenced.
2. It says it wants free and fair trade but the complexity of its own bureaucracy means it can always find ways within its labyrinth of rules to exclude produce for political reasons irrespective of international trade law.
3. Member states have no right of initiative in international organisations meaning that good ideas die in Brussels if one of the original six has an objection.
