Deaf/Disabled folks need to show up for #PrisonStrike2018.

At least 60% imprisoned folks are Disabled. They are targeted for no/lowest wages and other discrimination: no access to ed, programs, services, info, mental/healthcare.

PLRA's behind Deaf/Disabled imprisoned folks not being able to get support fr attys. If you struggle w English/can't get through complaints, nothing can be done.

The "I can do anything except..." framing in Disability/Deaf communities is ableist.
I know that very few want to admit or discuss this but it needs challenge, intense scrutiny & deep reflection and conversation. Not necessarily here but I hope folks are having these conversations cuz this is harmful.
It runs counter to Disability Rights, Disability Justice and Disability Solidarity precepts and praxis. It allows society to continue to believe that others who are unable to do some things are inherently lacking which contributes to systemic societal marginalization.

A reminder that the vast majority of people imprisoned in #PuertoRico, just like everywhere else are Disabled, low/no income, indigenous/negatively radicalized.

The few methods of communicating info in immigration prisons (call ctrs, word of mouth) are not accessible for disabled/deaf folks.

Attorneys/advocates, please actively look for disabled folks during visits & ask your clients if they've seen disabled/deaf folks in their prisons.
Rapid response teams are noting extremely high need for #MentalHealth support for hearing/non-disabled folks due to the psychological toll of separations/conditions.

The need is magnified with Disabled/#DeafInPrison.

Chair promises a 2020 process that is fair. Will release a protocol on debates soon; expect debates in summer 2019 . Will decide by March 2019 the Host City for 2020 Convention: Houston, Miami Beach, or Milwaukee.
We have worked hard to rebuild trust on our presidential process. Rules and Bylaws Cttee working with early states on rules. A key rule change ends superdelegates voting 1st round absent consensus candidate BUT elected officials can still be PLEOs & not run against constituents.
The PLEO Party Leader Elected Official designation is for pledged delegates who are Members of Congress Governors etc who want a first round #DNC convention vote but don’t want to run against activist to get there.

I've had some folks ask for tips on how to moderate a panel event, so here's a thread!

Note that this is based on my experiences moderating and participating on panels at meetups and info events in the tech industry.
Before you agree to moderate a panel, look at the make up of the panel participants. Are you yet another white person on an all-white panel? Or yet another man on an all-male panel?

If that's the case, tell the organizers that needs to be fixed or you won't participate.
If you've been asked to moderate, that means you have a lot of power in this situation, and you need to use it to help empower other people. This applies both to deciding if you should moderate, as well as helping the participants during the event.

So we're three days in to the largest #prisonstrike in US history. This is really, really, REALLY fucking important, and we cannot let it slide from the news cycle because flashier things are happening right now.

SO PACK IT IN, WE'RE DOING STORY TIME.
Now, the prisoners are asking for a lot of very important things, having to do with shitty conditions and institutional racism. But their primary focus is LABOR and how little they get paid.

Partly because it's modern-day slavery, but also because it affects everything else.
You see, back in the 90s, a conservative lobbyist group *representing business interests,* the American Legislative Exchange Council took a real big interest in criminal justice legislation and started pushing for a number of changes to the system.
