.@JoeBiden wants to make America "the leader for good in the world." It's going to be a tall order as divisive policies have shaken the nation's foundations. #CapitolRiot epitomized America's fragility at a time of extreme polarization. #CGTNFirstVoice #Inauguration2021
Despite being considered as leaving in disgrace, #DonaldTrump is still popular in his party. A post #CapitolRiot poll shows Trump still retains 87% of Republicans' approval with 43% support among voters overall post-second-#Impeachment. #Inauguration2021
Degradation of facts and truths has led to more than 400,000 #COVID19 deaths in #America. Conspiracies, promoted by extreme factions in society as well as elements in the Trump administration and sometimes even Trump himself, poisoned public opinion. #Inauguration2021

#Cenk #jimmydore ALL THIS IS TURNING ME OFF (THREAD) Hi, I'm a 50-year-old Black woman who has never missed an election at the local, state or federal level since I voted in my dorm commissary at UC Berkeley at age 18. The policies that most inform my vote are
combatting #ClimateChange addressing #IncomeInequality combatting the empire tendencies of the United States, #RacialJustice in the United States and #WomensRights. I don't care one hoot about the individuals who carry water for those policies. I don't care
if they are white or non-white, old or young, rich or poor, or whatever gender. If they are EFFECTIVELY advocating for those policies, then YAY! I'm deeply in the habit of voting and, when I can afford it, giving money to campaigns. It's not a habit that I'm going to break

Hi Folks! I'm still on break. However, I have received lots of messages & emails over the past few days requesting scholarly book & article recommendations to help contextualize the contemporary moment re: the #CatholicChurch & #BLM. So, here you go:
The story of the rise & fall of the #FederatedColoredCatholics of the US-esp. the clerical supplanting of Black lay leader Dr. Thomas W. Turner-is ESSENTIAL reading for these times. Start w/ Marilyn Nickels & David Southern. Links are provided below. #BlackCatholicHistoryMatters

2/ On Monday 7/6, the @MA_Senate Racial Justice Working Group unveiled the #ReformShiftBuildMA Act, a comprehensive bill that aims to reform police standards, shift resources from policing/corrections to community investments, and build a more just and equitable Commonwealth.
3/ The bill reflects what so many people have clearly stated they want in this moment of change: increased education around racism and implicit bias for our law enforcement, reduced violence in policing, and shifting the focus toward assistance/healing rather than punishment.

GREAT statement, @BucksDems!
Joan Cullen needs to resign for her #Racist statements.

And @BucksGOP should be ASHAMED for defending Cullen, while calling out @MeehanCampaign's for similar offenses earlier this year.

They clearly value political expediency over #racialjustice.
It appears the @BucksGOP was only ready to call out #racism when it meant they were protecting favored son (or in this case favored brother and #nepotism beneficiary) @RepBrianFitz of #PA01 from a more contentious primary challenge.
/2
And now that they are faced with another #racism issue, @BucksGOP is ready to circle the wagons for another #nepotism beneficiary.

Joan Cullen, who defended people in blackface and rejects the concept of systematic racism, is related to @BucksGOP vice chair Joseph Cullen.

@Starchild_2012 @WideAnglWatchr I am not sure what the term "woke" really means and I would certainly not describe myself that way. It suggests a binary "woke" vs ? ignorant ? and I don't think anyone (myself included) simply steps out of "ignorance" into "wokeness" ...2

The world is turning its attention to #racialjustice like never before, and whilst we are thrilled to see this important topic getting the attention it deserves, discussion is just the start. It's time for action.

We know we need to look at hiring, firing and promotion, but let's not forget where so much power sits in the charity sector... on trustee boards.
So what can you do right now to power up racial justice at your charity?

How do you "do justice?" Start where you are. Don't be so paralyzed by the scale of the problem that you simply do nothing. The work of racial justice needs lawyers and journalists, and also gardeners and theologians. #RacialJustice
My prayer tonight is for the poets to continue to write their poems. And for the artists to continue to paint their canvases. And for the preachers to continue to craft their sermons. Protest where you are, with your God-given skills and talents. #RacialJustice
Some can march and rally. But we also need folks writing op-ed letters. And sewing masks. And paying for bail. And caring for children of essential workers. And reading books to counter the miseducation you received about race in this country. #RacialJustice

1/ Q. What can to address racial inequities in #COVID19 and health more generally?

A: We must dismantle #racism at each level it operates on: individual, institutional, and structural.
2/
1) Individual/interpersonal—check our own biases, and those of others, to end discrimination against people of color. Also work toward reconciliation in populations through open dialogue and share learning experiences with people from different cultural groups.
3/
2) Institutional- overhaul policies, practices and procedures that benefit Whites at the expense of people of color. Especially for healthcare: in addition to implicit bias training, ensure that social determinants of health and racial justice are covered by school curricula.

But for what, exactly?

For #EconomicJustice, #RacialJustice, #EnvironmentalJustice, #EducationalJustice...and so much more.

But if you put your faith in a leader to get it done, it will all fail. As it always has.

So what do we do? WE get it done. #AllOfUs 1/
A leader, an elected official, an activist, can have all manner of good intentions. Their heart can be in the right place. They can advocate for the right policies. They can have all the right answers. They can fight for the right things.

But they’re just 1 person. 2/
It’s not reasonable to throw one person, no matter who that is, no matter how “great“ you think they are, up against the most massive corporate machine the #Oligarchy has ever been able to produce in the history of the world and expect that they can pass the agenda you want. 3/
