No #ClimateJustice without #RacialJustice. Image
Racially, ethnically & nationally marginalized communities are more likely than other populations to be adversely affected by the primary drivers of the #ClimateCrisis (aka #FossilFuels & #Deforestation) & the measures to address climate breakdowns.
In particular, #FossilFuels not only drive the #ClimateCrisis; they also erode the resilience of fenceline & frontline communities to the ravages of climate change, through their impacts on the environment and public health, compounding climate vulnerabilities.

#OTD in 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment passed the House of Representatives, sending it to the states for ratification. The Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United States “…except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted."
The amendment ended race-based chattel slavery in America, but did not rid the nation of forced labor, which exists through America’s prison system today. #13thAmendment #Constitution #slavery #HistoryMatters #CivilWar #USCivilWar #AmericanCivilWar #PoliticalHistory #knowhistory
Congress abolished slavery in Washington D.C. in 1862. The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in rebelling states Jan. 1, 1863 and former rebel states were forced to ban slavery in new state constitutions. Republicans in Congress still wanted a Constitutional Amendment.

Everyday since news of #ukricuts #gcrfcuts broke another set of previously unimaginable consequences occur:-
1) end of peer review for grants - it was already on a shoogly peg but who is now going to donate labour to laborious review of proposals - including risk assessments? 😐
2) Applications for funding - it takes two years constant work to go from idea to successful application with success rates low. To do this needs trust that if successful your work will be funded throughout (stage-gated). Right now I can’t imagine why I would EVER apply again.
3/ Partnerships. It takes years to build towards equitable partnerships in contexts of conflict & impoverishment. Some of mine are over 14 years in making. Steady, constant care. This is why they worked. Why they were funded. 1 secretive stroke of a 🇬🇧 pen and ‘poof’ - #ukricuts

The story of the rise & fall of the #FederatedColoredCatholics of the US-esp. the clerical supplanting of Black lay leader Dr. Thomas W. Turner-is ESSENTIAL reading for these times. Start w/ Marilyn Nickels & David Southern. Links are provided below. #BlackCatholicHistoryMatters

2/ On Monday 7/6, the @MA_Senate Racial Justice Working Group unveiled the #ReformShiftBuildMA Act, a comprehensive bill that aims to reform police standards, shift resources from policing/corrections to community investments, and build a more just and equitable Commonwealth.
3/ The bill reflects what so many people have clearly stated they want in this moment of change: increased education around racism and implicit bias for our law enforcement, reduced violence in policing, and shifting the focus toward assistance/healing rather than punishment.

GREAT statement, @BucksDems!
Joan Cullen needs to resign for her #Racist statements.

And @BucksGOP should be ASHAMED for defending Cullen, while calling out @MeehanCampaign's for similar offenses earlier this year.

They clearly value political expediency over #racialjustice.
It appears the @BucksGOP was only ready to call out #racism when it meant they were protecting favored son (or in this case favored brother and #nepotism beneficiary) @RepBrianFitz of #PA01 from a more contentious primary challenge.
/2
And now that they are faced with another #racism issue, @BucksGOP is ready to circle the wagons for another #nepotism beneficiary.

Joan Cullen, who defended people in blackface and rejects the concept of systematic racism, is related to @BucksGOP vice chair Joseph Cullen.

So what can you do right now to power up racial justice at your charity?
