If we think about the current state and accelerating pace of change in technology were thinking about a lot of change, coming quickly to the way we work.

Cath likes the concept of Design Systems but wants to explore the contexts where she sees them important.

There's a lot of changes in the ways our organisations work with agile being widely adopted, changes to engineering architecture and ways of working that affect the way we design.

Micro services, Atomic design, service blueprints and how they relate to each other have all influenced how we design.

We often apply controls over things we think are our execution responsibilities to maintain quality but it's time we let some of that control go.

As designers of complex systems we have to make sense of complex relationships.

How are complex adaptive systems (CAS) like teams?

As designers of CASs we may act as satellites looking at the system from above.

We might have different ways to help monitor change with methods to increase predictability.

However

Nothing is more reliable than looking at what actually happened. Whether the models we build from that predict the future is unknown.

The people who interact with complex adaptive systems might ask 'why is this happening?'

Example:

If you're unprepared for a change in a complex adaptive system you can have a poor experience

If you're prepared for the change your experience is completely different.

It can be hard to predict things more than a short amount of time in the future.

It's important to have a 'north star' for you to continuously work towards.

Cath has a theory:

Roles are colliding, engineers will become hybrid designers and we need to lower entry to design so we can focus on the important work.
