X : Do you still think we should Leave?
Me : Yes. My reasons haven't changed, namely that of democracy and sovereignty -
... my preferred route was docking to the EFTA pillar of EEA (without signing up to EFTA) which is a bit like Chequers but with Gov ratification before laws are passed. However, the no deal option under WTO is not ideal but can be made to work.
However, an even better route would have been DiEM25 but the chances of the EC reforming willingly and putting an end to this neoliberal monster was always a bit of a fantasy.
But even that would have fixed only one of the issues ... that of the neoliberal construct within the EC. The second (and related issue) is the already created divisions in the UK in terms of inequality and mobility. For this we need a real Labour government under Corbyn.
The path by which we have got here has been less than ideal ... the divisions have been stoked up and these post vote desires to re-run the whole show raise new dangers. I'm with Frank Field on the issue of brexit and I'm gutted that Labour would lose such an important voice.
But that brings to the issue of IHRA. This should have been accepted in full with clear guidelines to allow for legitimate criticism of Israeli policies. I do understand the concerns, the desire to get this right and the continual onslaught on Jeremy Corbyn.
There is a real issue with anti-semitism that has absolutely no place in Labour and that needs to be dealt with. However, I do understand the perception that there will be a few who would seek to use the debate to unseat Corbyn because they cannot remove him by democratic means.
I view David Blunkett has nailed the discussion in his article - theguardian.com/politics/2018/… - "Quite simply, Labour has to put its own house in order as decisively and speedily as possible."
... and for me, that means Frank Field rejoining. That is a voice we cannot afford to lose.
