White supremacists will gloat at “liberal snowflakes”who couldn’t handle Bannon. White liberals will say variation of this.For them it’s a visit to the “marketplace of ideas” that costs them nothing.For us people or colour, Muslims, LGBTQ, disabled people,it is our lives at stake 
Interviewing Steve Bannon as part of a news article is loathsome enuf. Giving him platform,amplifying his views on fest stage of 1 of world’s foremost literary magazines is abominable & dangerous. It legitimizes. White liberals w/nothing to lose are upset he’s disinvited.
You will understand that I don’t give a flying fuck about white liberals upset that Bannon has been disinvited when he should never have been invited for starters. When they’re incarcerated, banned, deported and otherwise hurt by fascists & white supremacists I might listen.
And of course she insists on “debating ideas in a civil and rational fashion.” The white liberal obsession w/civility again & again. There’s nothing civil & there is nothing rational about fascism & white supremacy. And they are not debatable ideas - they are dangerous ideologies
Steve Bannon calls David Remnjck “gutless” for disinviting him from New Yorker festival. I’ll tell you what’s gutless. White liberals who refuse to stand up to white supremacists, who insist on civil & rational debate with the abhorrent & dangerous. Grow a fucking spine!
If you are still going on about civility and rational debate then you are complicit. If you don’t recognize the dangers of white supremacy and fascism, you are complicit. If you aren’t fighting now, when will you fight?

If you are a white liberal who is not fighting white supremacy, you are benefiting from it.
Another one obsessed with “ideas” and their exposure. Plenty of us have been more than exposed to the ideology of Bannon et al and paid a high price for it. But for those who have nothing to lose - those who gain - will always diminish Bannon’s danger as just “ideas.”
Re the “marketplace of ideas” people: whose abhorrent ideas are allowed into this magical marketplace? Are the leaders of al-Qaeda and Isis/Daesh invited for a civil and rational debate of their ideas? I don’t want them to be. They are fascist & dangerous. So is Bannon.
Bannon is a white man with an abhorrent ideology but his whiteness makes them more palatable for “debate” for white liberals.Imagine if Baghdadi of Isis was invited to headline New Yorker festival. White liberals would understand danger then. It has to be this starkly pointed out
