1/ Steve Bannon must be chuckling with delight. The New Yorker Ideas Festival has become liberalism's funeral. And he's center stage. The
2/ destruction of liberalism was to be achieved by causing liberals to doubt their faith and abandon their values--to go down the path of
3/ illiberalism, to become an ideological tribe, like any other. It has happened gradually, though the pace has increased in recent years.
4/ Of course, some maintain that it was in the nature of liberalism all along and that what we see now is the true, intolerant liberalism.
5/ That's a big, important debate--one to which excellent scholars of different perspectives are making noteworthy contributions. But Bannon
6/must be the happiest man on earth about his disinvitation. It ratifies and publicizes the collapse of core liberal ideals--among liberals.
