OK I see I have to explain my thinking further. I don't read that tweet by Comey as a ringing endorsement of Wittes-I read it as an acknowledgement that they know each other, & are friends. Wittes himself stated that they are not super close in this piece: lawfareblog.com/what-james-com…
The press has portrayed Wittes & Comey as very close friends, and I worry that with Wittes' email with Kavanaugh out, and Wittes's recent strong defense of Kavanaugh's character, people will try to somehow conflate Comey and Kavanaugh-because Wittes has defended both.
But I still hold this question in my mind:
