@pnewman8 1/I don't think echo chambers alone produce "us and them" mentalities, I think an echo chamber must first be confronted with an Other in order for this to emerge.
@pnewman8 2/To avoid "us and them", the echo chambers must be porous and well-tended. The adventurous must explore and share their good viewpoints with those who feel threatened. Through sermons, for example.
@pnewman8 3/The problem is if you force someone inside an echo chamber to confront the Other. They either withdraw into "us vs them", or they must battle with nihilism. Too often nihilism wins.
@pnewman8 4/I feel that the current political situation is not the result of overly insulated echo chambers but overly porous ones. Deeply rational worldviews require effort and sacrifice. Most people struggle with enough precarity as it is. /end
