@choo_ek I remember this day so vividly and in such terror. This day o can still tell you exactly where I was at 9:03:11. I was crossing Wall Street just before Broad street on my way to work. It was the strangest thing walking down Wall st that day. 1/n
@choo_ek There were thousands of documents from MetLife scattered in the street. Turns out they were from the North Tower. And then the ground literally shook. I had never felt an earthquake, but I was sure this was not a physical earthquake. 2/n
@choo_ek When I got to work, the security guard said a plane had hit WTC. My rough thought was what idiot can’t avoid a building in this beautiful day. That was around 9:05. I then did the only smart thing I did all day—I called my parents to let them know I was ok.
@choo_ek I can’t tell why this occurred to me. Must have been because cnn took forever to load so I thought something was wrong. Anyway, half an hour later we all knew that a third plane had hit the pentagon and the probability of a series of accidents, already low, went to 0
@choo_ek Less than an hour after arriving at my office the first tower fell. I couldn’t tell you what floor my office was on, but the dust cloud covered our windows—I was 0.7 miles away, according to google. At that point the fifteen of us, or so, on my floor decided it was time to go.
@choo_ek But go where? We had no idea where was safe or what might happen next. The idea that the second tower would fall deeper don’t even enter into our nightmares at that place by in time. It was a time to be with more people and, honestly, to he terrified.
@choo_ek So we started walking down the fire stairs. We got down to the third floor before we had to stop. The dust had gotten into the building and hadn’t settled yet, so it was difficult to go further down. Instead we waited on the trading floor (I was working for sn investment bank).
@choo_ek We waited for the dust to on the first tower to settle. But before that happened the second tower imploded. If the collapse of the first tower was scary, the second was even more terrifying. There were people on the floor with friends in the second tower and the dust aibubly hit
@choo_ek The building with a “whomp" sound. At that point, dust or no dust, no one wanted to stay. I started walking the five miles home and have never forgotten that day.
@choo_ek Two years ago, I went back downtown for the first time in a long time. My wife and I went 5o the 9/11 memorial. It was incredibly moving, but going into the museum was difficult.
@choo_ek I really wanted to go through the exhibit, but it was too much for me and I left before the end of the exhibit. 9/11 lives with me and is something I cannot forget
