.@rgay: Why do I get uncomfortable to consider self strong, brave? I think we project bravery when others do things we can't. Resilience plays into strength. Strong=way in which you survive, endure. Boldly or not? Abt self-awareness, ability to acknowledge mistakes, failures.

Lots of insightful points in the conversation, which ranged from a discussion of optimism/pessimism in reporting on climate change to the idea of a board game designed around managing water. Going to share a few of their comments.

In Chicago today, a key city committee is set to vote on Lincoln Yards, a controversial $6 billion
development.

This week, Crain’s @crainschicago published an editorial in support of it:

It was written by the “Crain’s Editorial Board.”

Which got me thinking: Who is on the @CrainsChicago Editorial Board?
I couldn’t find the answer online.

The Crain’s staff page doesn’t say. It doesn’t list an Opinions/Editorial editor/writer. Editorial Board inquiries are sent to: editor@chicagobusiness.com. Google didn't help, either.

So I went straight to the source, asking Crain’s editors.

Please indulge me for a rare (but brief) thread of personal comments.
I was on a city bus in Copenhagen early this morning. A young man clearly suffering from mental illness was screaming angrily. Not an unusual occurrence on urban transport. Passengers ignored him. 1/
Suddenly the man rushed to the front of the bus and began viciously punching and stabbing the driver. A passenger intervened - he disarmed and subdued the man. (Turns out he used to be a police officer in Syria.) Two women in hijabs came to the bus driver's aid. /2
One was a nurse from Somalia. The other was a nurse from Iraq. (The bus route services a major hospital.) Police arrested the man. The bus driver, despite his injuries, asked police if they could ensure the man got help for his "mental sickness." 3/

Shapiro opposes noting the obvious historical parallels for:

* marking people with yellow insignia.
* taking away parents’ children with a ruse that they’re bathing them.
* equating a class of human beings with vermin.

Yet he flings that analogy entirely gratuitously.
It’s almost as if Shapiro’s interest isn’t the responsible invocation of painful historical memory in our national discourse.
Shamefully, some of the people he’s tut-tutting here are Holocaust survivors and their families.
