1/ By their actions, the CEOs of the two biggest Bitcoin companies (@bitmaintech and @Coinbase) were actively antagonistic toward Bitcoin maximalists and Bitcoin itself.

Pissing off the most passionate, productive and invested users in the space is just flat out bad business.
2/ The companies that embrace maximalists will have the greatest business prospects in the years to come. Those that don't will be viewed with increasing suspicion and find it hard to craft mutually beneficial deals.

Bitcoin made Brian and Jihan rich, why not *support* it, guys?
3/ An excellent example of a company that has embraced maximalists is @Square. @jack has seen the big picture and is developing a product for the most passionate users in the space that just happens to be great for noobs too.

@coinbase don't think there are no alternatives.

1/ 10 years ago today, Satoshi Nakamoto released version 0.1 of the #Bitcoin software. About two days later, the brilliant cryptographer Hal Finney (RIP), had downloaded Satoshi's code and was also running it, increasing the node count of the Bitcoin network to 2.
2/ As with many things related to #Bitcoin, Hal grokked its significance immediately.
3/ Today there are over 10,000 nodes running the Bitcoin software, dramatically increasing its resiliency and guaranteeing its revolutionary monetary policy.

1/ 10 years ago today, in an unknown location, a mysterious figure whose identity is still unknown, tapped a key on his keyboard, spurring his CPU into action.

In doing so, Satoshi reified his vision for a decentralized digital cash that he'd published 3 months earlier.
2/ The fan in his computer began spinning to keep the CPU, burning from the burden of work it had been given, from overheating.

The CPU in Satoshi's computer was searching for a special pattern, much like a digital needle in a haystack, that would secure #Bitcoin's first block.
3/ Here is that needle:

It is the hash of Bitcoin's "Genesis Block", which created the first 50 bitcoins ever to be mined (by a quirk of Bitcoin's protocol these 50 bitcoins can never be spent).

1/ I'm so excited to see this documentary about The Great War. Most people have little or no knowledge of the first World War, despite it being historically far more significant than the second. It spelled the end of the old European order.

2/ It also spelled the end of the classical gold standard, which had brought prosperity to much of the world during the 19th century. The world had finally escaped the Malthusian Trap only to enter a century of statism, fiat money and mass murder.
3/ Part of the disinterest in the Great War is the antiquated footage we have of the events. We see the past as a series of snapshots of soldiers awkwardly goose-stepping at 16 frames per second, making it harder for us to empathize with their struggles. It seems a caricature.

0/ The SEC killed *all* of the pending derivative-backed #bitcoin ETFs today. Why did they do it, and what does it mean?

1/ All eyes were on the SEC this week, as the final deadline to approve or reject the two ProShares bitcoin ETFs was tomorrow, August 23.

Most of us on #cryptotwitter were expecting the ETFs to be rejected.

2/ But we weren't expecting the SEC to also reject *seven* other derivative-backed ETFs proposed by GraniteShares & Direxion. Those ETFs weren't due for final decisions until September 15 and 21 respectively.

The only ETF left now is the VanEck/SolidX commodity-backed offering.

2/ So, I'm not sure if the community remembers and/or has ever heard of this, but there was an instance in 2013 where a number of private keys were able to 'cracked' on the $BTC protocol due to a Android wallet app

3/ The reason why this happened, in a nutshell, was due to the fact that the Android wallet app was not using a *collision-resistant* means of hashing private keys in the wallet.

1/ Don't be scared of potential hard forks. They are a key component of #bitcoin's ability to upgrade through rough consensus/game theory.
2/ A healthy #Bitcoin network is one which will fork many times in its future. Forks can enable new ideas, market will value accordingly.
3/ Only reason we don't already have many #bitcoin forks (w/ different PoW) is b/c devs can make a lot more $$ starting a fresh chain. $btc
