1/ When studying non-fungible #cryptoassets, I'm seeing two types discussed: "functionals" and "investment instruments."
2/ "Functionals" are non-fungibles that are meant to be used, a means to access services like ticketing, voting, payment, and more. Best existing examples?
3/ "Investment instrument" non-fungibles are held for their store of value characteristics, be they solely digital things, or derivations of meatspace assets (real estate, art, cars, etc).
4/ Some investment instrument non-fungibles will provide a claim to cash flows, others will not. Existing examples of note?
5/ Also, where above do non-fungible cryptoassets on a public network make no sense at all?

For example, @Apple uses a form of tokenization that feels similar to a non-fungible, though operates it on a private network... squareup.com/townsquare/wha…

The mainstream has almost entirely forgotten about #bitcoin again.
In conversations with people from home, many recall the #crypto hype from a year ago, but have stopped paying attention since.
Yes, there are a lot more “decisions makers” that have gained a basic understanding of #crypto, which is great.

And the technologists & financial folks that feed off the bleeding edge continue to pay attention, invest, or build, just as happened in 2015.

$ETH has been leading the #crypto market of late, likely in anticipation of the Constantinople upgrade in mid-January which will cut supply issuance by 33%.
2/ When it's showing up as a @binance announcement, it's fair to assume the information is starting to get baked into $ETH's price: support.binance.com/hc/en-us/artic…
3/ Notable that the market's not seeing red at the mere mention of a hard fork, too.

Instead the focus is on the supply-inflation cut + upgrading #Ethereum over time.

Shows me that we have more informed market participants & the daytrippers are long gone.

Most of the people who go out to talk about Bitcoin (and blockchain) fall in one of two categories:
1. The technical
2. The marketeer

There is usually little to no overlap between the two groups.
There is also little to no overlap in their goals.
The technical speaker usually has a huge problem connecting to any other than a technical audience.

As far as I can see, they also don't usually see the need to do so.

A few go so far as to express complete disdain for anyone non-technical.

1/ on this thread i’ll try to explain our current line of research at @DemocracyEarth that led us to the model described in token.democracy.earth on how to use the blockchain for a borderless democracy.
2/ a fundamental requirement for *any* voting system is having a consensus on who gets the right to vote on an election. without that, any election can be manipulated (eg “dead people in voter registries” or “db admin delaying registrations”). so identity becomes a key aspect.
3/ if we rely on identity by piggybacking on legacy systems —government issued ids, banks with their kyc/aml practices— then it is very likely we won’t be able to address the vast majorities excluded by them. eg: the world has 65 million refugees, not a single state ids them.
