1. Ever wonder how extremism gets mainstreamed on Twitter? Here's an example. Brian Wheeler is the radio voice of the Portland Trail Blazers. Lots of NBA fans follow him. He retweeted this seemingly innocuous rendition of the national anthem. The language, tho, seemed alt-righty
2. So I clicked on the profile of this Sargent Estrada fellow to see what his story was. Turns out his pinned tweet is an invitation for the President to call out the militia to fight against the Obama-led "soft coup" being planned by his socialistic, domestic enemies.
3. He's also a big QAnon fan, eagerly awaiting the moment when Jeff Sessions jails a ton of government officials in DC.
4. Obviously, Brian Wheeler is free to believe whatever he'd like and retweet whoever he likes. Given the politics of Oregon, however, I'm not sure how pleased the Trail Blazers would be to have their "radio voice" promoting folks who advocate armed insurrection & QAnon.
5. Just to be clear, there's nothing that indicates Wheeler has any connection to this person he retweeted or intended anything by it. I'm just struck by the very thin boundary between mainstream culture and the political fringe. All it takes is one click & you've passed over.
6. Ugh, and of course it's God Bless America and not the National Anthem that gentleman is singing. It's a beautiful rendition of the song. I totally understand why Wheeler retweeted it.
