Back to school!! @kgshojania kicking off the 6th cohort of the @CQuIPS Certificate Course in QI & Patient Safety with 30 interprofessional learners. Cautioning them in coming #QI pitfalls to avoid... 
Pitfall #1 - Rushing to a solution @kgshojania @CQuIPS — need to make sure you understand the problem and pick a solution that matches it.
Pitfall #2 - no theory for how the solution address the underlying problem @kgshojania @CQuIPS
Pitfall #3 - Ignoring the literature (oh and by the way @kgshojania happens to be EIC of highest impact #QI journal @BMJ_Qual_Saf) @CQuIPS
Pitfall #4 - premature evaluation. @kgshojania @cquips — need to do multiple iterative PDSA cycles to refine intervention prior to large scale implementation and evaluation qualitysafety.bmj.com/content/26/7/5…
Pitfall #5 - poorly chosen or incomplete outcomes @kgshojania @CQuIPS - fidelity measures to track uptake of the intervention and balancing measures to monitor for unintended negative consequences help to tell a richer #QI story

Pitfall #9 - unrealistic timelines. @kgshojania @CQuIPS Just because you only have a summer student for the next 4 months, don’t make that the most important determinant if when your project needs to finish
Pitfall #10 - overlooking sustainability considerations @kgshojania @CQuIPS — must design changes with sustainability in mind - “make the right thing the easy thing to do”
