It will keep falling because Americans are fundamentally decent and fair minded, #JudgeKavanaugh obviously qualified, he and his family tortured because the left demanded it, and the process so transparently deceptive. I hope his daughters and wife can come to forgive the Ds.
Of course I am assuming his conformation based on early, whispered assessments that —as expected— Dr. Ford’s account could not be corroborated. But the nomination could still fail and, if so, the GOP’s majorities and perhaps the party will be shattered for years. Because of the
manipulation of a woman who wanted only to be anonymous, who could have remained anonymous, and because of the unleashing of the worst McCarthyism since McCarthyism. It is a sober lesson on the frailty of due process and the rule of law that this is even close.
As for @JoeManchinWV and @SenatorHeitkamp, their last chances to survive the blowback would rest with being ahead of the last votes from the @GOP. That would require they represent their states —both obviously and overwhelmingly— in favor of confirmation. We will see.
Tonight FMH and I attended a dinner honoring Mrs. Antonio Scalia, a reminder that there are good men and women on both sides of the aisle, but they need to speak out for #JudgeKavanaugh and to what will be his superb work on #SCOTUS, to his temperament, and to end the slanders.
This is work for Democrats and those on the left Who care about decency and the rule of law, and it will take courage. I’ve used the analogies already but will do so again. Many passed by the beaten man before the Good Samaritan stopped to help, and many silently watched the
evil of Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn, even as they destroyed lives and careers. We recall and salute those who stood up against them —Margaret Chase Smith, Prescott Bush, Ike. Hopefully those sorts of legacies are made tomorrow and Saturday.
