If you haven’t already, get some experience working with a dev team and learn the process. Any team worth their salt can distill high level customer problems down into feature-level user stories.
For my 12 startups challenge I’m doing all the design and code myself... but I’ve done everything from working in teams, to managing multiple teams, to being a solo dev.
No book can substitute getting hands on experience in various types of working environment.

1/ I’ve had a few days to reflect on the last 4 months of my startup challenge and I think it’s time for a pivot / recalibration

2/ The challenge began with me wanting to practice execution again, after almost 3 years in a senior corporate role where I didn’t touch any code. I missed building things, had the luxury of free time, so it seemed like a good goal to just “practice shipping”.
3/ Now, after 4 consistent launches in 4 months I feel I’ve proved to myself I’ve still got the knack. I can still build and ship a decent MVP within a given time constraint. But I’m not happy.

Not many people go from launch to sustaining lifestyle in just a couple of months. Maybe that happens to some in survivorship-bias-land. But back in the real world it takes a lot longer. My last SaaS took 6+ months to get to just a few thousand $ MRR.
And that was when I was focused on ONE SaaS product and spent a good amount of time on content marketing every day.
I’ve said many times that revenue isn’t my short term goal. I’ve launched a free open source app, an app that charges $1, an app that has pricing but isn’t charging anything yet, and a job board in a competitive niche. These aren’t the actions of someone focused on revenue 😅

Without a doubt, yes. But then who is to say which strategy is right? Build another MVP or focus on an existing one? I feel like I will “know” when it’s the right time to really focus.
In the end whether you’re successful from iterating one product consistently or successful from trying many things and seeing what works - it’s all down to the chaos monkeys anyway 😅
I think the 12 startup method suits me best because I haven’t quite decided what industry / area I want to focus on. So it’s all experimentation. Even if I wanted to focus on one thing I don’t know what that one thing would be. Yet!

When you have two systems that need to communicate, the default for 90+% of companies is to use a shared database. (thread) #dev #programming #architecture #softwarearchitecture
Most never move off of this model, but it has disadvantages that go along with the ease of sharing data. Applications lack encapsulation and cannot adapt their data designs to suit their unique requirements.
Usually the next approach is to treat applications just like components, with exposed public APIs. However, this can result in increased down time since direct API communication between applications means if any is down, the whole thing is down.

dev/color is different.

Lots of tech Diversity and Inclusion work is non-black people, talking to other non-black people, about how to hire black people.

There's significant paternalism going on. Black people have no voice in a conversation that is supposedly about them.
This is why so many D&I programs fail to yield results. The idea that someone would develop a product without talking to potential customers is heresy in the valley...

...and yet most initiatives to hire more black engineers are implemented without input from black engineers.
Sometimes black folk are involved in the design of programs... But the black folk inolved aren't engineers. Closer! But no cigar.

That's how we get things like interview prep workshops for CS undergrads focusing on behavioral interviews... but missing technical interviews.

I just read a tweet from Republican diaspora member @secupp. I'm not going to RT it because it doesn't suit my standards.
But right in the middle of her article she rattles off this Republican brand message. --more
2. I keep telling you we don't have a brand message, and it's killing us. People start tweeting me about free college and medical care.
Those are policy specifics, not a brand message.
Reupblicans *never* give specifics. It's against company policy.
3. What Republicans have is a brand message, and they can insert it seamlessly into any document, any speech, any TV appearance. I bet you know it. I didn't want to quote it out in open conversation here, but if you're not sure what I'm talking about, the next tweet is a link.

I got into programming late. My first experience with it was in high school, AP Computer Science. Funny enough, it made me feel discouraged about programming. 😫
The class was confusing. I had a hard time grasping what classes and objects were. Needless to say, I got a 2 out of 5 on the exam 😬

High level #python #tutorial thread:
Python is a high level language that runs bytecode in its virtual machine.
Everything is an object.
It supports OOP up to multiple inheritance and functional programming.
Typing is polymorphic - duck typing is preferred
A Python script is a file with a name like name.py - we indent at four spaces (it matters), comments (after #) don't execute - and is typically written like:

A module is a reusable script:
